DVD 7617 LE ROI D'YS (Lalo)

Silly story. Picture is one of the best I've seen from a "non-commercial" DVD source. Sound is very good. The singers are mostly so-so. All the townspeople wear the same olive green clothes (slight difference between men and women), and all the principles, except the bad guy, wear fancy duds in the same ugly olive green, but trimmed in gold. The bad guy (named Karnac, believe it or not) and his troops look like devils that left their tails and pitchforks at home. Strange. The conductor is the most animated I've ever seen, jumping up and down like a monkey. He does a good job though, as does his orchestra. Between the disappointing opera and the so-so singing, I can't give this more than 4 stars in spite of the very high technical quality of the picture and sound.
