Touching documentary . . .

This is a public television documentary about the legendary Amato Opera which operated ultimately on the Bowery in NYC for 60+ years, run by Tony and Sally Amato. Sally Amato passed away in 2000, just after the production here, and Tony retired and closed the opera as of its last performance on May 31, 2009, just short of his 89th birthday. He sold the building and that's that, expressing a wish to write his memoirs and create a fund for young singers, directors, conductors, etc., who aspire to opera. (All of this I googled after the fact.) I was hoping for more of a glimpse of performances of the productions than were actually shown here, but otherwise, the documentary covered the gamut of the lives of the creators, Sally and Tony, and the shoestring operation. Very interesting. Too bad it's all gone now. I lived in NYC during part of the 70-80s and I missed it. Another thing to add to my list of regrets!!!
