DVD 5150 OPERA SINGERS ON TV

I think, this is just hilarious! And that was probably also the intent - so let´s take it for what it is ... Some serious stuff here and there too, mind you.

This is an enjoyable look at many opera singers of the past performing on TV, mainly in chat shows. Some of them are relaxed and truly entertaining, Di Stefano's description of his debut at the Met is a real gem. On the less positive side, the clips are put together in a fairly haphazard way and the quality of sound and picture varies from the barely watchable to reasonable for the age of the programmes. On the whole, this is an interesting historic document but I'd recommend it for dedicated opera fans only and you will need to make allowance for the fact that TV was a very different world then also the frequently poor quality sound and picture.
